A Capstone Project by Adam Pierce
My Journey
Hello! My name is Adam Pierce, and I'm a senior at Fort Worth Country Day. I chose Capstone as one of my classes this year because I believe I can make a difference. Over the summer, I was involved in an excellent program called Funky Town Food Project. It's a group dedicated to providing healthy, naturally grown food to food deserts and food-insecure neighborhoods. This program inspired me to take charge of what I consider essential, which is why I've developed a plan that works alongside other resources in Fort Worth to combat food insecurity.

During the fall season, I worked with my former Funky Town boss, Kent Bradshaw, to formulate a plan to tackle food insecurity using Fort Worth as a test model. I chose Fort Worth as my starting point not only because it's my home but also because it's considered one of the most food-insecure cities in Texas. In fact, the DFW area has the third-highest number of people facing hunger in the entire nation. Through strong partnerships, community engagement, and generous funding, my goal is to implement micro gardens in low-income neighborhoods where food insecurity is most prevalent. To get this done, I would build a youth workforce team comprising creative, avid individuals. I would also create home gardening kit programs that bring plant growth into households. I have been called to a greater purpose in this life: to help people not only find themselves but live life to the fullest.
