A Capstone Project by Adam Pierce

Introduction
Food insecurity is the condition of not having access to sufficient, adequate-quality food to meet one's basic needs. It affects millions of men, women, and children in America every year, and its rise has been swift and unforgiving.
Fortify Farming is my plan for reducing food insecurity and helping Fort Worth residents "fortify" themselves against hunger.
Understanding Food Insecurity

Eighteen million households experience food insecurity in the U.S. every year.
This amounts to roughly 47.4 million individuals, 14 million being children.
Per year, the U.S. wastes 40% of all food, which could be used to feed millions.
Many communities are labeled food deserts because it is hard for them to get to a grocery store, leading to reliance on fast food or other unhealthy options.
In Texas, ~52% of people who are food insecure live in families whose income is above the threshold for federal aid, such as SNAP.
Texas' food insecurity percentage, according to 2023 studies, is 17.9%, meaning 1 in 6 people are affected daily. There's a good chance you know someone insecure.
